Synchronization is the set of techniques that enable the frequency and phase of the equipment clocks in a network to remain constrained within the specified limits. Synchronization networks can have hierarchical or non-hierarchical architectures.
Networks that use hierarchical synchronization have a tree architecture. In such networks a master clock is distributed, making the rest of the clocks slaves of its signal. A network with all the equipment clocks locked to a single master timing reference is called synchronous. Net.Sync is a PTP synchronization appliance that can be configured as a PTP master or slave clock, it also has monitoring capabilities regarding the quality of timing services and it can also loopback packets to remote testers and execute itself test suites at PHY/MAC/IP layers.
